Fire reporting is moving to NERIS. Here is what that means for you.

LifelineIQ Team·

The U.S. Fire Administration is replacing NFIRS, the system fire departments have used for incident reporting for decades, with NERIS, the National Emergency Response Information System.

If your agency runs fire and EMS, this lands on your desk.

What changes

NERIS is built to collect more useful, more consistent data, closer to real time. That means new incident types, new required fields, and a different submission process than NFIRS. Reports your crews wrote one way for years will need to be written a little differently.

What does not change

Someone still has to write a complete, accurate report after the call, and someone still has to review it before it is submitted. NERIS changes the format. It does not change the work.

How LifelineIQ handles it

The Fire workspace guides crews through a NERIS incident report, shows what is required for the incident type as they go, and sends finished reports to a review queue before submission.

Submitting to NERIS requires some setup on your side first: enabling your agency, connecting credentials, and mapping your apparatus. We walk through that with you during onboarding.

If you are not sure where your agency is in the transition, that is a good first conversation to have.
